Tony Cross BSc MSc, Managing Director
Over a career spanning some 30 years Tony has held senior positions in academia, local government and consultancy. This multi-sector background has offered an insight in to the different organisational cultures.
Advising on transport and development planning
Acting as ‘critical friend’ to clients Tony sees the bigger picture, distilling information and teasing out the salient points, overcoming obstacles and offering viable and credible solutions. With a strong background in economics Tony is familiar with the commercial and financial imperatives attached to investments in a variety of transport modes. This includes the preparation of business cases to support the decision making process in both public and private sectors.
Tony builds collaborative relationships and partnerships with clients based on trust and mutual respect. Tony’s extensive knowledge of the Transport Planning and Development arena enables him to respond to client needs by working together with fellow professionals in a way that delivers results.
Advising start-up, growth and entrepreneurial businesses
Tony has experience as Board Director of several corporate businesses with senior responsibility for growth and resilience. Most recently he has become Managing Director of an SME. Tony has skills in both internal and external communications, leading teams responsible for managing change and engaging with colleagues in a way which empowers and provides ownership of the strategic vision
He has experience of takeovers and mergers and has developed strategies for business improvement during times of growth and recession. This has on occasions required a sensitive restructuring which recognises the experience and capabilities of individuals. Tony has experience of developing staff through training and the delivery of targeted programmes designed to extend personal capabilities and skills.
He has also been responsible for meeting budgeted expenditure, income and targets and is experienced in the formulation of marketing plans and publicity, including the identification of new business. His knowledge covers the following areas of business development;
- Pricing strategies to secure work
- Training the work winners
- specification of action plan for business development
- leadership of bid teams on major projects
- negotiation and client communication
